La Marina
at Le Caudan Waterfront, better known as ‘Bassin des Chaloupes’, is situated in
a privileged harbouring location and offers ideal mooring conditions for
Mauritian as well as foreign yachts and pleasure crafts.
APPROACH
As you sail
on latitude 20° 09.4 South and longitude 57° 29.45 East, the Port-Louis Radio
VHF welcomes you on the 12-14-16 channel right at the entrance of Port-Louis.
Entrance
into Port Louis
is straight forward and well marked. The southern one is the main port and it
is where yachts enter.
After usual
formalities at the ‘Customs steps’, the Security & Maintenance service of
Le Caudan Waterfront will meet you at the Marina.
FORMALITIES
Port Louis is the main harbour and the only official port of entry and exit for Mauritius. One
must clear in here before visiting any other anchorage.
Before
entrance call "Port Louis Port Control" on channel 14/16.
If you get permission to
enter the harbour, proceed to the Customs and Immigration dock on position 020° 09.6'
S, 057° 30.0' E. That wharf is located in an old grey building, next to an
old windmill and restaurant on the port side right at the end of the main
channel. The dock is small, just for 2-3 boats. Tie the lines to the railings. Watch
for the swell which often coming inside the harbour.
Follow the
instructions of harbour master. You will visit customs and immigration.

MARINA
The depth
of the Le Caudan Marina varies at low tide, ranging from 2 to 4 meters.
Services
available at bay: 20 berths with electrical and water connections, showers and
toilets, laundry, parking and taxis.

mooring fee depends on the size of the boat:

There is a
fuel dock where you have to move the boat during loading. Note there is a
shallow water just after that place (also in the middle of the chanell)
PROVISIONING
There is
few middle size groceries in walking distance and few mega markets avaiable by
car.
The prices
are OK.
SERVICES
Laundry: week
days only from 09h00 to 16h00 : Rs 125 /kg cloth, ask in the marina office.
WiFi
There is a
WiFi Hotspot in the marina. Password you can get in the marina office. You can
also buy a sim card with internet data.
For crews
Marina is the Water Front area, which is
modern, fancy rich part of the town. There are a lot of shops, bars,
restaurants, but there is pretty expencive.
Rent a car
or a taxi with driver for all day and visit:
- La Vanille Nature Park
on the South
- Seven
colours of Earth
- Safari Park
(Casela Park) - this is must see, you will need
all day.
- Local
waterfalls
- Botanic
garden Pamplemousses (you can get there by bus)
