Beaching ships destined for scrapping is a kind of standard. This activity does not cease to amaze, however, especially if you can see it on film.
The scrapping of ships and obtaining in this way valuable items, are an important part of the economy of many developing countries of South Asia. At the forefront of the industry are Bangladesh and India. It's mostly there, often in makeshift shipyards, ships are first drawn to a few kilometers inland at high tide. They are then cut, demolished, and obtained components are transported to the mills. Below is a video showing the spectacular beaching ship in Aliaga in Turkey.
